About The Asian Pacific Association of Banking Institutes

This is a semi-formal and non-profit association. Currently 19 banking institutes in Asia and Asia Pacific Region are members of the association.

APABI plays an important role in bringing together specialist training institutes that share a common goal to equip banks and financial institutions with the capacity to deal with the transformational developments that are shaping the financial sector by supporting the continued renewal of its most valuable asset, human capital.

APABI Executive Committee meets once in two years. APABI has no membership fee or corpus. As such the members take responsibility for organizing meetings and conferences under APABI on a rotation basis. The meetings and conferences have been found useful for the APABI members as also the host institution.

Ms. Lydia Wee

Deputy CEO, The Institute of Banking & Finance, Singapore

Lydia was seconded to the Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) in Nov 2016. The IBF works closely with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and relevant government agencies, industry associations, financial institutions, training providers as well as institutes of higher learning to identify competency requirements and develop a responsive financial sector training infrastructure.

Prior to her current role, Lydia was with the MAS for 16 years. She started her career in the Corporate Finance Division, where she helped to develop the framework for offers of investments in the Securities and Futures Act and introducing the policy framework for Business Trusts. She moved to the Capital Policy Division in 2005, and worked on the implementation of the Basel II framework for locally incorporated banks. She helped with the initial review of economic models used by banks in their internal capital adequacy and assessment process, and the development of principles to manage and supervise credit risk concentrations. Following the completion of her Masters at LKY School of Public Policy, Lydia joined the enterprise risk management team in 2010 where she spearheaded the development and implementation of MAS’ enterprise risk and operational risk frameworks. Lydia went on to head the banking development division in 2012, which was responsible for strategies to encourage global and local banks to grow their business in the region, and enhance Singapore’s standing as a financial centre.

Dr.Jibendu Narayan Misra

CEO , Indian Institute of Banking & Finance

Dr.Jibendu Narayan Misra has joined as CEO of the Institute on 15th December 2014. Dr.Misra is a Ph.D. in Physics. He joined State Bank of India as Probationary Officer in 1979 and has held various key assignments across circles, including an overseas assignment in London.

Dr. Misra has held such important positions as General Manager, Patna circle; General Manager, Rural Business (Outreach), Corporate Centre, Mumbai and Chief General Manager of Mumbai Circle. He was elevated to the post of Dy. Managing Director on 31.07.2013 and was in-charge of Corporate Development and Human Resource Department of the Bank.

Mr. Sanjib Subba

CEO, National Banking Institute

Sanjib started his professional journey with the then Grindlays Bank (now standard Chartered) in early 90s. In late 90s he moved to Thailand to be part of a team to start a brand new American University namely Webster University where he worked for more than 10 years as Executive Director overseeing entire graduate program, Professional Development courses and international admissions division.
Sanjib's area of interest includes strategy, management, leadership and corporate governance. Apart from MBA, Sanjib is the graduate of Executive Education program from Stanford University in California, World Bank Institute in Washington DC, Frankfurt School of Management and also have earned Master Trainer certification on Corporate Governance from International Financial Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank. Sanjib has been regularly contributing thoughts on Corporate Governance, HumanCapital Development, Leaderships and Youth empowerment.

Ms. Cathy Kuo

Senior Executive Vice President of Corporate Banking Division, E.SUN Bank

Ms. Cathy Kuo, Senior Executive Vice President of Corporate Banking Division at E.SUN Bank, has a career in banking sector for more than 25 years in Taiwan and Asia region. Her expertise includes establishing and management of overseas channels, foreign exchange, syndicated loan and regional business operation.

Since year 2000, E.SUN Bank has establish 25 channels in 9 countries and regions, including the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Japan, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar. She also has rich experiences in recruiting international talents and setting up global banking system and business platform, which provides a good foundation for the bank’s rapid overseas development.

Currently Ms. Kuo serves as the head of overseas business management for E.SUN Bank and cooperates with external partners and various business units at E.SUN Bank to develop a service platform targeting the financial needs of cross-border customers and facilitating their business in the region.

E.SUN Bank is a Taiwanese Bank which exhibited excellent performance in various areas, including overall business performance, corporate governance, customer service, risk management, financial innovation, and corporate social responsibility, as it strives to pursue well-balanced and sustainable development.
